Néstor Arenas was born in the city of Holguín, Cuba, in 1964. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Art, Havana, in 1990.
His work showcases a personal iconography, a fusion that emerges from a life experienced both in Cuba and abroad. Arenas engages in a dialogue with the viewer about reality through the visual representation of landscapes. "My work is a discourse on the landscapes I have lived in. Each new landscape represents a different reality. I overlay images from the past with the present, thus creating the future," he affirms.
His artwork has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Cuba, Spain, and China. Notable recent exhibitions include the 12th Havana Biennial (2015), "Legopaintings" at the Lyle O'Reitzel Gallery in Miami (2010), and his participation in the Arteaméricas Art Fair in Miami (2009 and 2010), as well as the Shanghai Art Fair in China (2010). His work is part of various private and corporate collections, such as Forrest Capital (Miami), The Mosquera Collection (Miami), Jorge Reynardus Collection (New York and Sarasota), Leigh University (Pennsylvania), and Universidad de Valencia (Spain), among others. Néstor Arenas currently resides and works in Miami, Florida.
